Memories

It is incredible how many memories the brain holds. Movies can re create memories or bring us back to different times. Music can soften our mood by using our pleasant memories or it can bring us horrible realities by using against us memories stored up in our unconscious that we never wanted to bring up again. Whenever we hide from something those memories come back, memories of the good times mixed with so many memories of the hard times and the trying times. So what happens now? We move on. We get down our knees and pray for the strength to go on, to help others, to think about what the Lord would want us. There is truly only one optimist and that is Jesus Christ. He mourned with those that mourned and comforted those that stood in need of comfort but he never lost hope. He always knew the possibilities. He knew that times would be hard and that memories would hurt. What he did was create a way for us to get past them and to listen to the knew sounds, the new music that is being sung all around us by the manifestations of our creator.

We can have different outputs of which we can turn out our stressful energy and bring ourselves back to a conscious mind. Some of these outputs may include exercise, music, singing, talking with loved ones, watching movies, reading, or a whole plethora of possible ways but when it really comes down to it the thing that saves us is not the output, even though they are necessary and very rewarding, we need to look at the input. Are we letting Him into our lives? Are we focusing on Him?

When I think of a memory there are all these little webs that bring up other memories that all come linked together with these neuron connections that have formed in my brain. Memory is not a stationary solid but a fluid liquid and river that has many sources and runs down into countless pools and exhaust places. We just need to look and be aware.

Master's Thesis

I have had this idea for a long time but it all comes down to intelligence. What makes someone intelligent? How can they retain intelligence and what things can we do to remain intelligent?

Here are a few ways:
1) Say your prayers. When we rehearse in conversation that which we have done throughout the day to our Father in Heaven we remember those specific things. Just talking with him will require us to actively remember different facts and situations that have happened. When we review them we maintain them. When we stop thinking about something it fades away.

2) Write in your journal. The mere writing of something down requires our brains to actively think and re create. When we write things down, especially special experiences and things we really want to recall not only do they stay in our memory with the extra review but we also have them written down in case we ever forget them.

3) Tell people about what is happening in our lives. This is the main concept that others can help with. Imagine the first day of school for a little boy or girl. They get on the bus to go to kindergarten and they learn their new teacher's name. They may even begin some math or letters (in my case) or any other type of information that has been specially treated to be spoon fed so that the younger mind can organize it properly. They either have an amazing day or they have a sad day. The kid gets on the bus home and sees his house. He/She jumps off the bus and runs to their mom. Mom asks, "What happened in school today?" The kid starts retelling every little detail. Now it is the obligation for the mother and father to listen to what the little person has to say. If they have enough love for their child it'll never get old and the child will get into the habit of reviewing, to someone that cares and wants to listen, their days and the facts that they have learned every day. When they review it they keep it. When they feel that love they aren't afraid of talking. They know they have someone that listens. Parents have an extra responsibility from the very start to be listening and ready to give positive comments and compliments and they need to maintain their extreme love so that these habits do not encounter opposition. It is about diligence just as Elder Bednar said about FHE. It is the fact that they had it every single week that made it special, even though nothing special was remembered in particular.

With these three easy forms of review and output a child will remember what has happened to them. They will be positively reinforced and be all the more intelligent. Just as hours and hours of practice are required to learn a violin, whether it be mental or physical, the same goes for memory. We must practice our memory recreating that which we have learned.

My family once made a little joke about my brother. He got in bed, thought for two hours, slept for eight, and woke up and thought some more for two hours. He was in the habit of reviewing and because of that habit he now reviews as much as he eats and sleeps. It is a second nature skill to him and will continue to mature and blossom throughout life.

I was in that habit starting my seventh grade year. I reviewed things when I went to sleep. One day my mind was working so much at night that I could no longer sleep. I was so aware. It became a type of insomnia, I was thinking myself awake. My mind wanted to hold onto these facts so much that sleep was such a little priority. I do not believe that is safe. I didn't review things with anyone, I could only think about them. I had no other output. As such I started working on trying to make my brain go dead when I got into bed. I finally did it. I finally was able to mediate myself to sleep every night. I don't have any problems with insomnia and I am trying to re-get into the habit of reviewing, using my output, to others the things that I have learned throughout the day. When I do I hold onto them. When I don't, I lose them.

Ninja Master

This idea came from a friend of Rusty. Rusty is a good friend from my mission. His friend got together with 8 or 9 other guys and gals and all dressed up as ninjas for Halloween. They were completely black with their faces unrecognizable. What did they do?

The first things that I heard of was they would jump in front of cars going along a neighbor hood and even perhaps slide over the top of one while crossing a street. They would appear, stun the driver, and leave without inflicting any damage or long term effect. The point was to give the driver a good laugh.

The second thing was parties. They had a list of all the parties in down of their friends that were either outside or inside. They would go from one side of the party to the other, grabbing a drink or eating a chip and leaving before anyone knew what was happening. I think one could even get away with jumping on a trampoline and then off and run into the bushes or over the fence. No one can get caught. There are many ways to pull this off I've realized.

The third and personal favorite of mine was the hot tub situation. They somehow got a hold of the location of a good friend's hot tubbing party. They all sneaked into the back yard and encircled the hot tub without being seen. Being properly spaced around the hot tub they were able to successfully all raise their heads at the precise time. Can you believe how freaked out these people were? They all jumped out of the hot tub and ran inside. I do not recall if the ninjas made any noise but judging on the nature of ninjas I do not think it neccessary.

Interesting idea, right?

Midnight Marathon

This is the idea of Christina, a good friend of mine. I'm writing it down so that it is not forgotten. She was talking with me about the fact that it is just miserable to run in the morning. You are barely awake. You don't want to eat anything. Your muscles are all tight. Why is it that marathons start in the morning? Why can they not start at night?

Granted a morning marathon in the summer prevents it from getting too hot by the time the race is finished by why not start in the evening or night when it is cool and run in the darkness? People would lose just as much sleep but their bodies would be prepared for it and it would also give those "morning" people a chance to have a fair fight with the "evening" people.

Her proposition was to map out a course and do a "midnight" marathon. I told her I was down, and I'm writing it down so it doesn't become forgotten.

Languge

Language is made of a few components:

Nouns
  • Proper
  • Unproper
Verbs
  • Transitive
  • Intransitive
  • Helping
  • Tenses
    • Past
    • Present
    • Future
    • Conditional
Pronouns
Adjectives
  • Modify Nouns
Adverbs
  • Modify Verbs
  • Modify Adverbs
Prepositions
  • (Input extra info here)

Grammatically speaking we have:
  • Subject
  • Verb
  • Predicate
Wie gehts?
Come stai?
Como estas?
How are you?
Min hao ma?
As-Salam alaikum?

I probably butchered those.

That really isn't much in a language. How hard would it be to create another language either phonetically or symbolical?

Magic

I just finished reading The Thief by Megan Turner. There was very little use of the word magic but it provoked a few ideas to come into mind.

How does magic work? There are a few different theories.

1)Some people are just born with it. It is something that can be harnessed by practice just like learning how to ice skate but only certain people can be born with it. It would be like learning a new way of using your body. When we first get on skates we are wobbly and the effects are a little uncertain. When magic users start testing out their new muscle, their sixth sense, their "tail" (the use of a tail in a dog is a muscle we don't have) it is wobbly and the effects are indeterminate and even probably tiresome but the more they train that muscle or sense the more they can do with it and even though they still can get fatigued just as hockey players get tired they can produce a much better game and more effect.

2)It is spoken and learned. Sometimes magic is derived from an ancient language and when the words are said correctly with the proper tool the effects become real. If magic really came from words than what determines the strength of a sorcerer? It would seem that their ability to master language would be the determining factor. Of course you would still need to learn and study to see how once the magic is produced it can be used to effect the things around us. Would firing an electric bolt at a steel frame produce the same results as shooting an electric bolt at a piece of wood?

3)It is understood. There are some books that describe magic as the ability to concentrate on another area of the mind and using that wield material effects. This is my personal favorite because it requires concentration. What if there is an extra part of  us that could be used to harness outside forces? I have heard of master karate teachers going to snowy mountains in shorts and a t-shirt. They will sit down and not move a muscle but actually think themselves so warm that steam will come off of them. Is this real? Does the mind really have so much power over the body so that when muscles aren't used heat is still generated at such an extreme degree?

4)It is built off of science. This is another favorite of mine. There are basic elements in the earth and when those elements are correctly understood and manipulated other things can occur. Material can be organized to produce different compounds. Just like using a flame can produce glass from sand if all the elements, energies, and processes of that equation could be completely understood then what is to stop a human recreating the same requirements in their mind and produce the same effect just by touch for example. When the heat of our hand is transferred to chocolate the chocolate melts. If we could focus the heat and increase our internal energy, harness it using the hypothalamus part of our brain we could add enough energy to create glass out of sand just by touch. You could create a glass wall right in front of you and depending on it's type of creation and materials used could be bullet proof and therefor protect you. Is it possible? And what would be the toll on the human body? For example my brother was disgusted with the fact that the life action spider man produced his own web. How much would he have to eat to produce sooo much web. If we looked at the dietary intake of a spider to web creation comparison and enlarged the diameter of each strand to that of what spider man uses how much extra food would spider man have to eat to be able to produce such an incredible amount of spun web?

5)Magic is channeled through an object. Depending on the strength of the object determines the amount of spell and the gravity of the spells caused by the conjurer. I don't like this theory because I hate "the thought" of using instruments to enhance or create ability. Obviously I don't understand the problem because I like computers just the same. When we pull the trigger of a pistol a bullet that travels at the speed of sound can blow a hole through a target. Why can this not work in a "magical" setting? If the item manipulates something other than what we have in our known physical world then it would seem like magic to us just as a gun seemed like a magic thunder stick to Indians. When given the proper objects magic can occur. That object could even communicate with your mind with the proper technology and do things that you would want it to do when you merely "thought" about them. Doesn't Iron Man's suit seem like magic? What if it is only connected to the neurons in his brain just like Doc Oc from Spider man with his neural chip connecting with the extra arms.

6)The theory that I would like to introduce is by authoritative command although I cannot take any credit for this concept. It is built off of the concept by Cleon Skousen. When a leader of a building company instructs the workers how to do something they all put their shoulder to the wheel and do it. The leader does not have to do every little part even though he is willing to. He is an authority. If none of the workers respected that then the building would never be made. What if atoms worked by authority? What if electrons and corks and protons and neutrons and even anti-matter worked by authority? They do not respect humans enough to do what we say. They take on a form and stay that way. It's only when we apply forces to them do they change just as the worker doesn't do anything till force or money is applied. What if someone had the authority so that the atoms would listen to their word. What if just by saying something they would manipulate themselves because they respect that person so much? Now, if all the atoms worked in this way who could stop the respected authoritative voice from commanding these two hydrogens to bond with that oxygen and create water? It would be magic, just by the word. The person could just tell the "seas to be still" and the atoms wouldn't argue but just do that. It doesn't matter if the person knew every little thing about wind and gravity and tide etc. All they would have to do is speak and the atoms would understand and obey. This could be another form of magic.

To understand a little bit about this look at the link posted by Michael. I've never heard this declared a 100% true doctrine but I think it does explain things in a possible sense.

I like things to be logical. These all seem quite logical when thought out.
